The Abilities Based Learning and Education Support (ABLES) assessment tool is available to all schools who deliver the Western Australian Curriculum.

The tool supports teachers to assess students on the basis of their abilities and provides explicit guidance material and resources to assist teachers in effectively planning and teaching students based on their individual learning needs.

Links to the ABLES assessment tool and a professional learning course for ABLES users, as well as the ABLES User Guide, are available at https://k10outline.scsa.wa.edu.au/home/resources/ablewa/getting-started-with-ablewa.

Recommended protocols for School Administrators on the use of the ABLES assessment tool are available in both the Kto6 and the 7to12, 2025 edition of this Circular at https://www.scsa.wa.edu.au/kto6-circulars/edition-2-february-2025.

Generally, the Western Australian Student Number (WASN) will match the year group. In 2026 the WASN for Kindergarten commences with 45, Pre-primary with 44, Year 1 with 43, and so on.

Email any questions about the ABLES assessment tool to ablewa@scsa.wa.edu.au.
