All students enrolled in the Physical Education Studies (PES) ATAR Year 12 course must complete the School‑based practical external assessment (SPEA). The 2026 SPEA is scheduled to take place in Term 3 between Weeks 2 and 8.

SPEA handbook and application forms

Schools are to refer to the Physical Education Studies School‑based assessment handbook for information on how to conduct a SPEA and how to apply to form a collaborative SPEA or a SPEA administered by the School Curriculum and Standards Authority (the Authority).

The SPEA handbook and application forms for collaborative and Authority‑administered SPEAs are available under the ‘SPEA materials’ accordion at https://senior-secondary.scsa.wa.edu.au/syllabus-and-support-materials/health-and-physical-education/physical-education-studies.

Applications for a collaborative SPEA or an Authority‑administered SPEA must be received by the Authority by Thursday, 2 April 2026.

SPEA Contact

All schools offering the PES ATAR Year 12 course in 2026 must have a nominated PES contact registered in the Student Information Records System (SIRS). This should be a staff member directly involved in the administration of the SPEA.

It is important that the PES contact is updated or verified as soon as possible in SIRS to ensure that all SPEA communications are directed to the appropriate person.

Instructions on how to verify, update and enter staff information in SIRS is available in Section 2 of the Data Procedures Manual at https://scsa.wa.edu.au/publications/data-procedures-manual.
