From 2028, only Certificate IV qualifications that appear on the School Curriculum and Standards Authority’s (the Authority’s) Certificate IV Specified List will be eligible to contribute unit equivalents for students towards Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) achievement.
As advised in correspondence from the Authority Board Chair, Mrs Pauline White, to all secondary school Principals on 25 March 2026, the Authority invited registered training organisations (RTOs) in Term 2 to apply for Certificate IV qualifications coded red or amber on the Department of Training and Workforce Development’s (DTWD) Vocational Education and Training Delivered to Secondary Students: Qualifications Register (VET Register) to be added to the Certificate IV Specified List.
Following Round 1 of the application process, which has now been completed, the Certificate IV Specified List as at 25 June 2026 is now available on the Authority website via https://senior-secondary.scsa.wa.edu.au/vet/all-about-vet.
Round 2 is now open. The Authority will consider applications from RTOs for green-coded qualifications on the VET Register to be included on the Certificate IV Specified List. RTOs may also apply or re-apply in this round for red- or amber-coded Certificate IV qualifications to be included on the Certificate IV Specified List.
Applications from RTOs for Round 2 close on Monday, 10 August 2026.
The application form and further information, including Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs), are available on the Authority website at https://senior-secondary.scsa.wa.edu.au/vet/all-about-vet.
