The syllabus contexts related to the 2026 Common oral assessment task (COAT) will be available from Friday, 26 September 2025 on the School Curriculum and Standards Authority (the Authority) website.

The COAT will be administered in schools during Weeks 4, 5, 6 and 7 of Term 2, 2026. All students enrolled in the Year 12 English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D) ATAR course are required to complete the COAT.

The COAT is based on Unit 3 syllabus contexts. The syllabus contexts, highlighted within the document, will be available on the EAL/D ATAR course page at https://senior-secondary.scsa.wa.edu.au/syllabus-and-support-materials/english/english-as-an-additional-language-or-dialect.

The Authority will publish the Common Oral Assessment Task Handbook 2026 in early 2026.
