If you are considering withdrawing from a course, take time to reflect deeply – ask yourself about your commitment to achieving the Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE). Do you need assistance or assurance to complete the course? How can you stay positive in striving to be successful? Seek support from your teachers – they are your best guides. This is vital because if you do withdraw from a course, it could impact on you achieving the WACE. You are aware that to achieve the WACE, you need to meet the WACE requirements as stipulated by the Authority. Please refer to the Year 12 Information Handbook 2026, Part I: Information for all students on the Authority website.
Please remember that when you withdraw from a course, it will not be listed on your Western Australian Statement of Student Achievement (WASSA). Thus, you will not receive any credit for the work that you have completed so far this year in the course.
The School Curriculum and Standards Authority needs to be notified of withdrawals from a course. The two key dates are stated below; however, you are urged to check with your school about their deadlines to withdraw you from a course.
- Year 12 ATAR courses (Units 3 and 4) with practical examination components or a school-based practical external assessment (SPEA), the last date for withdrawal is Thursday, 23 July 2026.
- Year 12 ATAR courses (Units 3 and 4) that do not have practical examination components or a SPEA, General, Foundation, Preliminary and Vocational education and training (VET) industry specific courses, the last date for withdrawal is Monday, 10 August 2026.
All the very best with your studies.
