2024 ATAR course examinations – marker applications
The School Curriculum and Standards Authority (the Authority) is seeking applications from qualified people interested in marking the ATAR course practical and/or written examinations.
Marking may involve school holidays, Term 4 school days, Saturdays and/or Sundays, public holidays and/or evening work, depending on the course being marked. If teaching in a school during the marking period, permission must be obtained from the principal to undertake the marking role.
The Authority endeavours to ensure that the anonymity of Chief Markers and markers is maintained.
Markers must declare any conflicts of interest to the Authority, including delivering seminars/lectures or engaging in preparatory examination marking forums involving students.
Employment Conditions
The Authority work is supported by a secretariat provided by the Department of Education (the Department). The School Curriculum and Standards Division (SCS Division) of the Department delivers the Authority’s legislated functions.
The Authority does not employ staff directly. Under a service level agreement, the Authority has arranged with the Department to use employees of the Department and other sectors to deliver its functions. Employment practices are guided by the Department’s policies and processes.
All individuals employed, appointed or otherwise engaged to work for the Authority are provided with a copy of the Authority’s Code of Conduct to read, understand, sign and return to the Authority.
A Department of Education employee may only undertake work which is outside their regular working hours or it may constitute a breach of contract and disciplinary action may occur. Work that is completed or meetings attended during work hours will be paid as teacher relief to the school when a replacement teacher is required.
Prior to completing the application, it is important that the following document is read and understood.
Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check (NCCHC)
All markers must consent to a current Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check (NCCHC) conducted by the Department of Education and receive a Screening Clearance Number (SCN) prior to the examinations commencing.
Markers will be informed of their SCN status at appointment. If the SCN is not current, information will be supplied about how to complete a new NCCHC.
Working with Children Check (WWC) for practical – oral and performance examinations
Department of Education employees undertaking child-related employment must hold a valid Working with Children (WWC) Check, as required by the Working with Children (Criminal Record Checking) Act 2004. Employees who do not currently hold a valid WWC will be required to obtain one prior to commencement.
Applications for marking close on Wednesday, 19 June 2024 at 23:59.
