ATAR Chief Supervisor – Practical and Written Examinations (Casual pool)

The School Curriculum and Standards Authority (the Authority) sets, administers and marks external examinations for Year 12 ATAR courses. The Authority also conducts nominated Interstate Language examinations. The Examinations, Certification and Testing (ECT) Directorate is responsible for implementing the logistics for the delivery of Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) course examinations.

The Authority establishes over 200 examination centres/venues to conduct the practical and written examinations to over 10,000 students throughout Western Australia and overseas. Each examination centre has an appointed Chief Supervisor and Supervisors to assist with the conduct of the ATAR course practical and written examinations.

About the role

The Authority are currently looking for suitable and reliable people to fulfil the position of Chief Supervisor for ATAR courses both in practical and written examinations.

Practical examinations will be conducted from Sunday, 21 September to Sunday, 20 October 2024.

Written examinations will be conducted from Monday, 28 October to Friday, 15 November 2024.

A Chief Supervisor needs to demonstrate accuracy and attention to detail and ensure examinations are conducted fairly and in accordance with the Authority policies and procedures. This role requires the demonstration of appropriate and professional workplace behaviours, have high-level of communication and inter-personal skills including the ability to confidently and respectfully deal with various situations that may arise and able to work in a high-pressure work environment. Strong leadership and organisation skills are essential in order to direct, support and ensure the integrity and security of the examination process.

Eligibility

To be eligible to apply for the role, you must:

  • Have a current Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check (NCCHC) obtained through the Department of Education’s Screening Unit.*
  • Hold a current Working With Children card (WWC).*
  • Be eligible to work in Australia.*
  • Have availability during the entire examination period.
  • Not be teaching or tutoring candidates sitting ATAR course examinations in 2024.
  • Have computer literacy skills including basic understanding of Microsoft applications, ability to send/receive emails, and complete online forms.
  • Have a mobile phone, access to a computer and the internet.
  • Have the physical fitness - ability to stand for lengthy periods of time, lifting of examination materials, resources and equipment weighing up to 20kg, walking large distances including walking up stairs.
  • Not be closely related to or associated with any candidates sitting the 2024 ATAR Written Examinations if applying as a Chief Supervisor for the Written Examinations.
  • Not apply to be Chief Supervisor of any 2024 Practical Examinations which include a candidate who they are closely related to or associated with.

*not applicable for Chief Supervisor appointments for locations outside of Australia.

2IC Chief Supervisor.

Some of the larger examination venues may require a 2IC Chief Supervisor if you are not successful in being appointed as a Chief Supervisor at an examination centre you may be appointed as a 2IC Chief Supervisor. The role of the 2IC Chief Supervisor is to support the Chief Supervisor and ensure that large and complex examination centres maintain business continuity in case of illness or unforeseen circumstances.

Payment

Chief Supervisors (Written) are paid an examination session payment that is based upon the number of candidates enrolled for a session. Payment includes the time required to set up the alternative rooms for candidates approved for equitable adjustments. The base rate begins at $209.25 for between 1 and 20 candidates and increases as number of candidates increases. Written supervisors are also offered allowances for number of rooms, number of sessions and training.

2IC Supervisors (Written) are paid the same base rate as Chief Supervisors while they act in this role but they are not eligible for any allowances unless they are required to act as the Chief Supervisor.

Chief Supervisors (Practical) are paid an hourly rate of $46.50, excluding a standard 30-minute-break.

The Department of Education, in accordance with the Superannuation Guarantee Percentage will pay on a Chief Supervisor’s behalf (11% in 2023-24) to the Government Employees Superannuation Board (GESB) or a superannuation fund elected by the chief supervisor.
