ATAR Supervisors – Practical Examinations (Casual Pool)
The School Curriculum and Standards Authority (the Authority) sets, administers and marks external examinations for Year 12 ATAR courses. The Authority also conducts nominated Interstate Language examinations. The Examinations, Certification and Testing (ECT) Directorate is responsible for implementing the logistics for the delivery of Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) course examinations.
The Authority establishes over 200 examination centres/venues to conduct the written examinations to over 10,000 students throughout Western Australia and overseas. Each examination centre has an appointed Chief Supervisor and Supervisors to assist with the conduct of the ATAR course practical and written examinations.
About the role
Practical Supervisors ensure the ATAR practical examinations are completed successfully and with minimal disruption. They are responsible for assembling reception areas for candidates, signing candidates in upon arrival and escorting candidates to examination areas. Depending on the examination there may be additional roles.
Supervisors are the first and main point of contact many candidates will have during their examination experience, because of this it is essential that they have a calm demeanour, well rounded knowledge of the examination and its procedures, and the ability to work well with the other supervisors and markers.
If appointed, supervisors will be required to successfully complete an online training program, prior to their employment being confirmed.

Work hours
Practical examinations will be conducted from Sunday, 21 September to Sunday, 20 October 2024, and conducted throughout the day. Each course will have different requirements on time and duration of the examination.
Eligibility
To be eligible to apply for the role, you must:
- have a valid Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check (NCCHC) obtained through the Department of Education’s Screening Unit*
- hold a current Working With Children Check (WWC)*
- be eligible to work in Australia
- have availability during the entire examination period
- have computer literacy skills including basic understanding of Microsoft applications and the ability to send/receive emails and complete online forms
- have a mobile phone, access to a computer and the internet
- have physical fitness - ability to stand for lengthy periods of time, lifting of examination materials, resources and equipment weighing up to 20kg, walking large distances, including walking up stairs
- Should not apply to be supervisor for any 2024 Practical Examinations which include a candidate who they are closely related to or associated with
* Not currently holding an NCCHC or WWC check are not barriers to being offered employment, however both must be obtained before examinations begin.
Payment
Supervisors (Practical) are paid an hourly rate of $36.50. Prior to the examination period, supervisors will complete a short online training course expected to take two hours, which is paid at the standard hourly rate.
The Department of Education, in accordance with the Superannuation Guarantee Percentage will pay on a supervisor’s behalf (11.5% in 2024-25) to the Government Employees Superannuation Board (GESB) or a Superannuation fund elected by the supervisor.
