ATAR Supervisors – Written Examinations (Casual Pool)

The School Curriculum and Standards Authority (the Authority) sets, administers and marks external examinations for Year 12 ATAR courses. The Authority also conducts nominated Interstate Language examinations. The Examinations, Certification and Testing (ECT) Directorate is responsible for implementing the logistics for the delivery of Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) course examinations.

The Authority establishes over 200 examination centres/venues to conduct the written examinations to over 10,000 students throughout Western Australia and overseas. Each examination centre has an appointed Chief Supervisor and Supervisors to assist with the conduct of the ATAR course practical and written examinations.

About the role

This role requires the demonstration of appropriate and professional workplace behaviours in accordance with the Code of Conduct, high-level communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to confidently and respectfully deal with various situations that may arise, and the ability to work in a high-pressure work environment. This role requires good organisational skills in order to support and ensure the integrity and security of the examination process.

Supervisor’s work under the supervision of the Chief Supervisor and support them with the set-up of examination centres and day-to-day operation of examinations, ensuring a high standard of service is provided to candidates undertaking the ATAR course examinations.

If appointed, supervisors will be required to successfully complete an online training program, prior to their employment being confirmed.

Work hours

Written examination will be conducted from Monday, 28 October to Friday, 15 November 2024, and are typically two and a half or three hour examination sessions. The Authority conducts up to two examination sessions per day.

Eligibility

To be eligible to apply for the role, you must:

  • have a valid Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check (NCCHC) obtained through the Department of Education’s Screening Unit*
  • hold a current Working With Children Check (WWCC)*
  • be eligible to work in Australia*
  • have availability during the entire examination period
  • have computer literacy skills including basic understanding of Microsoft applications and the ability to send/receive emails and complete online forms
  • have a mobile phone, access to a computer and the internet
  • have physical fitness - ability to stand for lengthy periods of time, lifting of examination materials, resources and equipment weighing up to 20kg, walking large distances, including walking up stairs.

*not applicable for supervisor appointments for locations outside of Australia

Payment

Supervisors (Written) are paid a session rate of $164.25 per examination session, of which there are two per day. During the examination session supervisors will be required to work for approximately 4 and a half hours. Supervisors are also offered a training payment to cover time spent meeting with their Chief Supervisor and completing online training. This payment is $109.50.

The Department of Education, in accordance with the Superannuation Guarantee Percentage will pay on a supervisor’s behalf (11.5% in 2024-25) to the Government Employees Superannuation Board (GESB) or a Superannuation fund elected by the supervisor.
