The nominations for the 2022 School Curriculum and Standards Authority (the Authority) Awards for Outstanding Achievement in VET are currently open. There are awards in nine industry areas.

What VET Awards offer
Applying for the VET Awards will prepare you for the future by enhancing your presentation and communication skills. You may achieve a certificate of excellence or even be the top student in your industry. As the top student in your industry area, you would be eligible to be the Beazley Medal: VET winner.

Check your eligibility
To achieve a VET exhibition or certificate of excellence, you must meet some general criteria:

  • be an Australian citizen or a permanent resident of Australia;
  • be enrolled as a full-time student in a registered secondary school; and
  • have satisfied the requirements for a WACE at the time of the determination of the award.

In addition, by the end of Year 12 you must have completed:

  • a nationally recognised VET qualification to a minimum AQF level 2*; and
  • at least two unit equivalents of the ADWPL endorsed program equivalent to 110 hours or more (The workplace for your ADWPL must be related to the industry area for your nomination).

*If you have completed 220 nominal hours in Year 12 towards the completion of a Certificate III or higher, you are eligible for nomination.

To be eligible for the Beazley Medal: VET, you must meet the general criteria and have achieved a VET exhibition in one of the nine industry areas.

Short-listing and interviews
A panel for each industry area short-lists eligible students nominated by schools. Short-listed students are invited to an interview. This is an opportunity to showcase your skills, knowledge and experience in your industry area.

VET Awards scenarios
Alana is passionate about working in the healthcare industry. Alana worked with her school career and VET Coordinator to see which VET qualification would allow her to achieve her goal of becoming an Occupational Therapist. Alana studied Certificate III in Allied Health in Year 12. She demonstrated excellence in her VET studies and spoke to the VET Coordinator to find out if she could be nominated for the VET Awards. She won the VET exhibition in her industry area and was also offered a job as an Occupational Assistant when she finished school.

Elliott has had a love of food and cooking for as long as he can remember. When Elliott was growing up, he took any opportunity to be in the kitchen and learn new skills and techniques from his family. After talking with his grandmother, Elliott decided to do a VET qualification in commercial cookery while at school and hopefully learn the finer art of being a Chef. Due to Elliott’s passion, he was able to undertake the qualification through an apprenticeship pathway and started his school-based apprenticeship in Year 11. By the end of Year 12, Elliott was halfway through his Chef’s apprenticeship and was working with a fine dining restaurant near his home. Elliott’s school VET coordinator and TAFE lecturer worked together to nominate him for the VET awards. For Elliott, undertaking VET while at school helped fulfil his passion and desire to be a high-class chef.

Important dates
Nominations are open from Friday, 1 July 2022 to Monday, 29 August 2022. The winners will be announced in February 2023 at a ceremony organised by the Authority.
