What the VET Awards offer
Applying for the VET Awards will prepare you for the future by enhancing your presentation, communication, and interview skills. You may achieve a Certificate of Excellence or even be the top student in your industry. If you are the top student in your industry area, you will be eligible to be the Beazley Medal: VET winner.

To be eligible for the Beazley Medal: VET, you must meet the general criteria and have achieved a VET Exhibition in one of the nine industry areas.
Shortlisting and interviews
A panel for each industry area shortlists eligible students nominated by schools. Shortlisted students are invited to an interview. This is an opportunity to showcase your skills, knowledge and experience in your industry area.
VET Awards scenarios
Scenario 1
Sarah lives and breathes sport. It has been her ambition to turn her love of sport into a career. After talking to her school’s VET coordinator, Sarah enrolled in a Certificate II in Sport Coaching. Sarah is also completing workplace learning (ADWPL) with her local netball club where she coaches a junior team, and volunteers with event management tasks at carnivals the club runs. Demonstrating her commitment to her chosen path, Sarah has also completed several industry courses to improve her knowledge and skills, such as the Community Officiating General Principles course and Introduction to Sports Taping.
Recognising Sarah’s commitment, her VET coordinator suggested she nominate for the VET Awards. Her netball club was supportive of her nomination and provided a supportive reference. Following the shortlisting and interview process, she was awarded the VET Exhibition in her industry area as the top student. After participating in the VET awards process, Sarah had greater confidence when applying for a Program Assistant position at Netball WA for which she was the successful candidate. She is excited about beginning her career with Netball WA after Year 12.
Scenario 2
Matthew has always been interested in a career in the tourism industry. After discussing future career opportunities with his school’s career advisor and the best training pathways to get there, he is undertaking a Certificate II in Tourism in Year 12.
Matthew is doing his workplace learning (ADWPL) with the Perth Hills Kalamunda Visitor Centre where he assists customers with information about local tourism businesses and attractions. Working at the Visitor Centre has opened Matthew’s eyes to the many types of tourism businesses, and from this, he has decided to pursue further study after Year 12 by going to TAFE to study the Certificate III in Guiding to become a tour guide.
Matthew heard about the VET awards through a friend who was nominated the year before, so discussed the possibility of putting in an application with his VET coordinator. He is keen to share with others his experience of undertaking a VET pathway at school.
