Teachers are advised that the current list of designated works for the Music ATAR course will remain in use for another year. This means that both Year 11 and Year 12 students will utilise the current list in 2022. In 2023, only Year 12 students will utilise the current list.
Depending on the Years 11 and 12 Music ATAR syllabus review process, it is anticipated that the revised Music ATAR course, along with a new list of designated works, could be implemented for Year 11 students in 2023, and Year 12 students in 2024. Schools will be advised well in advance if such changes occur.
The updated document can be found on the Music course page of the Authority website (https://senior-secondary.scsa.wa.edu.au/syllabus-and-support-materials/arts/music), under the Support Materials: Written component heading. Please note that only the dates on this document have been changed; the list of designated works remains unchanged.

WACE Checker developed to assist students monitor their progress towards achieving the WACE

Jenny Offer (08) 9273 6313

Schools are kindly reminded that the School Curriculum and Standards Authority (the Authority) has developed a Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) Checker to allow students to use to check on their progress towards achieving the WACE.
The WACE Checker is available to check on meeting the WACE requirements in 2021 and beyond and it can be found on the front page of the Authority website at https://www.scsa.wa.edu.au/.
The WACE Checker is a tool which students can use to check their progress towards meeting the requirement of the WACE. It is designed to determine whether a student has met (or is expected to meet) each of the requirements for the WACE. To use the WACE Checker, students will need to enter their expected or actual achievements in Year 11 and in Year 12. The checker will be of most assistance if the information provided is realistic. For example, when students add their anticipated grades for Year 12, they need to add what they realistically expect to achieve this year.
The WACE Checker is provided as a guide only. The report provided must not be interpreted as a guarantee the student will achieve a WACE. Achievement of the WACE is dependent on the calculation of a student’s final results and completion of courses. Students are encouraged to consult the WACE Manual for the relevant year, or their school, should they wish to confirm WACE eligibility.
The WACE Checker will be particularly useful for students considering changes to their education program which may affect their eligibility for the WACE.
More information is available under the ‘Tell me more’ button on the checker.

Consequences of not sitting examinations in 2021
Contact
Jenny Offer (08) 9273 6313
Jenny.Offer@scsa.wa.edu.au
Schools are reminded that students who are enrolled in a Year 12 ATAR course pair of units are required to sit the ATAR course examination. There are both written and practical examinations for some ATAR courses.
Students who do not sit an ATAR course examination, and do not have an approved sickness/misadventure application for that course, will not have the grades for the pair of units completed in that year contribute to the calculation of the Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE).
This means, the grades for the ATAR Year 12 course will not contribute to the:
- completion of a minimum of 20 units, including 10 Year 12 units
- completion of at least one pair of Year 12 units from an English course (if the ATAR Year 12 course was either English, Literature or English as an Additional Language or Dialect)
- completion of one pair of Year 12 units from List A (arts/languages/social sciences) or List B (mathematics/science/technology) – depending on the list of the ATAR Year 12 course
- achievement of at least 14 C grades or higher, including at least six C grades in Year 12 units
- completion of at least four Year 12 ATAR courses.
Students who do not sit the ATAR course examination will not have a course mark or grade recorded on their Western Australian Statement of Student Achievement (WASSA), nor will they receive an ATAR course report.
As a consequence, a student may not meet the requirements to receive a WACE.
The School Curriculum and Standards Authority advises consultation with students who may be enrolled in ATAR course/s but who are not requiring an ATAR to confirm that they must sit the examination for that course for it to contribute to their WACE.
