Review of the Pre-primary to Year 10: Teaching, Assessing and Reporting Policy and Policy Standards

The Board of the School Curriculum and Standards Authority (the Authority) is currently conducting a review of the Pre-primary to Year 10: Teaching, Assessing and Reporting Policy and Policy Standards (Policy and Standards), which can be found on the Authority website at https://k10outline.scsa.wa.edu.au/home/policy/teaching-assessing-and-reporting-policy.

The Policy applies to all Western Australian and approved offshore international schools offering schooling in Pre-primary to Year 10 and is supported by the Policy Standards for Pre-primary to Year 10: Teaching, Assessing and Reporting.

Principals, school leaders and teachers are invited to provide feedback via a survey. The survey is seeking input on the current Policy and Standards to inform further refinements and improvement.

The Policy and Standards communicate the mandatory requirements for:

  • teaching the Western Australian curriculum
  • assessing and reporting student achievement.

The Policy and Standards were originally published in 2016. Since then, minor revisions have been made on two occasions. It is, therefore, timely for a more extensive review of the documents to ensure that the information is clear and the requirements are well understood. The current Policy and Standards, along with any revisions, must align with:

  • the vision set out in the Alice Springs (Mparntwe) Education Declaration (2019)
  • relevant legislative requirements outlined within the School Curriculum and Standards Authority Act 1997, the Australian Education Act 2013 and the Australian Education Regulation 2013
  • the approved national learning framework Belonging, Being and Becoming: The Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF).
