Consultation on proposed revisions to Australian Curriculum Languages
The Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) has released proposed revisions to the Australian Curriculum: Languages – Auslan (Second and First Languages) and Aboriginal Languages and Torres Strait Islander Languages (Second, First and Revival Languages) Foundation to Year 10, as part of the Australian Curriculum review. Registration is now open for the consultation workshop.

Today, Education Ministers from across the country agreed to some improvements to NAPLAN from 2023 based on consideration of advice presented by the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA).

New Board Chair for School Curriculum and Standards Authority
Today the Minister for Education and Training announced Ms Pauline White will succeed Professor Patrick Garnett as Chair of the Board of the Authority. Ms White will assume her new role from 18 December 2021.
The Executive team and all staff at the Authority thank Professor Garnett for his leadership and contribution to the work of the Authority since its inception in 2012. We wish him the very best for the future. We welcome Ms White to her new role and look forward to progressing the Board’s strategic plans.

Languages ATAR Examination Design Briefs
Teachers of Languages are advised of a minor change to the ATAR Examination Design Brief for the following courses:
- Japanese: Second Language ATAR Year 12
- French: Background Language ATAR Year 12
- German: Background Language ATAR Year 12
- Italian: Background Language ATAR Year 12
- Italian: Second Language ATAR Year 12
- Chinese: Second Language ATAR Year 12
Schools will receive information on the nature of the change in each course.
